Herbaceus perennial. Native to Italy. This species is notable
for its intense, gentian-blue flowers. The fresh root of all the
Anchusa species (often called Alkanet) were used either as a red dye or
in ointments for external use in treating wounds and burns. Cultivation:
Extra care. Self-seeding. Light dependent germinator.
Direct seed in mid-spring, or start in flats. Space plants 2 feet
apart. Flowers to 4 feet.
