Atractylodes macrocephala

Family:  Asteraceae
Herbaceus perennial.  Native to China, Korea and Japan.  Bears radiant flowers which give way to large, fertile seeds crowned by a silky pappus.  The rhizome is used in Chinese medicine as an aromatic tonic in treatment of chronic gastro-enteritis and as a Qi tonic to promote the adrenals and help resurrent flagging sexuality.  Cultivation:  Easy.  Average germ time 23 days. Space plants 1 foot apart.  Flowers to 22 inches tall.
