Balsamorrhiza sagittata

Herbaceus perennial.  This plant is native to the Pacific Northwest and the Rockies, making a distinctive low-lying garden plant with its large arrowhead-shaped leaves and bright-yellow composite flowers measuring up to 4 inches across.  Replete with immune-stimulating, disinfectant and expectorant properties, the tincture of the dried root is very useful medicine for treating bronchial infection. Cultivation:  Extra care.  Sow in fall, midwinter or very early spring, in outdoor flats or nursery bed. Likes acid soils, partial shade.  Space plants 2 feet apart.  Flowers to 18 inches tall.
