Basil, Thai

Ocimum basilicum

Family: Lamiaceae
Annual.  This is a showy, globe-shaped plant with medium-sized, lance-shaped leaves,  green at base of plant and purple toward the apex.  The flowers are purple to bronze and meld into the colors of the upper leaves.  Good for container planting or a sunny spot by the front door.  Spicy.  Preferred variety for Thai cooking.  The Horizon Herbs growout of Thai basil looks particularly yummy this year...   Cultivation:  Easy. Germ in about 7 days. Sow in greenhouse or in pots on the windowsill and transplant out to the garden when the weather has settled into summer.
