Herbaceous perennial.  Native to temperate Europe and Asia. A pretty creeper, flowering in whorls and very decorative as an edging plant.  The whole herb is used, dried and made into an aromatic, bitter and mildly narcotic tea. Cultivation: Extra care.  Slow to germ.  Sow in fall or early spring in outdoor nursery bed or cold greenhouse.  Plant prefers moist, rich soil; shade or sun.  Cold hardy.  Plant 1 foot apart.  Flowers violet to 1 foot.
