Chamomile, Roman

Chamaemelum nobile

Family:  Asteraceae
Perennial ground cover.  Native to southern and western Europe and the Mediterranean.  Cultivated everywhere.  Plants grow and interlock to form a tough carpet, which can be mowed to maintain as a close-cropped lawn.  A good site for an afternoon break from gardening.  Pleasant dreams. Cultivation:  Easy.  Sow seed in fall or early spring, in flats or directly where desired.  Do not thin direct-seeded areas.  Space transplants 8 inches apart.  Grows to only a few inches, but flowers up to 22 inches tall.
