Chrysanthemum, Bedoin

Chrysanthemum coronarium

Family:  Asteraceae
Annual.  Native to the Middle East.  The Arabs use the young leaves in salads, or make a tea of the dried flowers to bring down a fever. Cultivation: Easy. Sow seed in spring.  Germinates readily even in cold soils.  Space plants 6 inches apart.  They grow rapidly to form handsome 18 inch bushes sporting numerous, golden flowers.  Flowering period may be extended until frost by removing the wilted blossoms, which stimulates increased production of fresh blooms.  Flowers 2 to 3 feet tall.
