Fireweed (Kapor Tea)
Epilobium angustifolium
Family: Onagraceae
Herbaceous perennial. Native to arctic lands and temperate Europe,
Asia and North America. The showy flowers are highly decorative in
the garden, occurring in long clusters, colored pink to purple, on plants
ranging from 1 to 6 feet tall. High in both vitamin A and C, the
plant provides food (spring shoots), drink (the tea tastes similar to black
tea) and medicine (the tea is used to relieve stomachache). Cultivation:
Extra care. Light-dependent germinator. Mix very small seed
with sand and press into surface of flat, or bury shallowly and use fire
treatment. Space plants 1 foot apart.
