
Chionanthus virginicus

Small deciduous tree. Native to Pennsylvania, Georgia and Tennessee.
The genus name means “snow flower,” a tree as lovely as its name.
The root bark was one of the favorite medicines of the eclectic physicians,
due to its tonifying influence on the liver and digestive organs.
It is considered a specific for normalizing chronic hepatic inflammation.
Cultivation: Extra care. Soak seed in water for a day
and a night. Sow in spring for germination the following spring.
Tamp into soil surface and cover with a mulch of rotted sawdust or bark.
Keep moist.
