Gentiana tibetica
Family: Gentianaceae
Perennial. The Tibetan Gentian makes large and fleshy leaves
which droop like tongues. The plant is beautiful, very cold-hardy
and probably the easiest Gentian to grow. The bitter properties are
held in the leaves. A tea of the dried leaves is utilized for improving
digestive function, or the leaves may be nibbled fresh just prior to eating,
to stimulate flow of gastric juices, resulting in better assimilation of
nutrients and less gas. Cultivation: Extra care.
The small seeds are sprinkled on the surface of good soil and pressed in.
Takes up to 3 weeks to germinate. Loves shade and moisture.
Plant 1 foot apart, grows to 1 foot.
