Hyssop, Official
Hyssopus officinalis
Family: Lamiaceae
Woody perennial. Native to the Mediterranean. When Hyssop
comes to full bloom in the early summer, the borders of our gardens burst
with the deep blue-purple of multiple, thickly blossoming bushes.
This mildly anti-viral and expectorant herb makes an excellent tea to treat
the common cold. Cultivation: Easy. Sow seed in
greenhouse in early spring. Expect excellent germination. Thin
seedlings to 2 inches apart in the flat, and allow to attain 6 inches in
height before transplanting out to the garden, 2 feet apart. Hyssop
flowers to a height of 2 feet. This is the Hyssop we will send you if you
don’t specify type.
