Jewelweed, Orange

Impatiens pallida

Annual.  Native to the eastern and southern U.S..  Of a morning, dewdrops bejewel them.  Plants have wide leaves, translucent red stems, bright orange flowers, spotted internally with red markations in much the same color and patterning as a tiger lily.    The fresh plant may be rolled into a little bundle and worried until it makes juice, truly the best treatment available for poison oak and ivy.  Cultivation: Easy.  Cold-stored seed.  Sow directly outdoors in fall or early spring.  Prefers moist ground, sun or shade.  Space plants 6 inches apart.  Grows 2 to 4 feet tall.
