Kudzu
Pueraria lobata
Family: Fabaceae
Perennial vine. Spreads joyfully. Native to China and Japan.
In the southern states, Kudzu is sometimes cursed as the unstoppable overwhelmer
of outhouse and telephone pole. In China, a concentrate of the root
juice and/or the dried flowers are given to alcoholics, as a cure for hangover
and as a cure for alcoholism. Cultivation: Easy. Scarify.
The seed may be sown directly in the garden or started in the greenhouse.
Kudzu will not survive very cold winters. Provide trellis, or plant
next to the outhouse.
