Annual.  Wild medicinal food.  Soft, slightly downy and mucilaginous leaves are as good as spinach, high in protein, calcium, and Vitamin A. Seeds also edible and nutritious.  Native Americans used the plant to treat urinary infection, diarrhea, stomachache.  Cultivation: Direct seed in summer in prepared beds.  Prefers full sun,  loose, nutrient-rich soil and plenty of water.  Flowers green-white, 3 to 6 feet tall.
