Glycyrrhiza glabra
Family: Fabaceae
Herbaceous perennial. Native to the Mediterranean. Once
established, the plants shoot up like a young Willow thicket, setting erect
lilac flowers. Licorice root is a fine-flavored demulcent and expectorant,
essential herbal treatment for Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, adrenal exhaustion
or gastric ulcer. Cultivation: Easy. Scarify.
Sow seed in warm soil in the greenhouse, or direct seed in the early summer.
Germ. in about 7 days. Thin or transplant to 3 feet apart.
Prefers full sun and dryish soil. Organically grown Licorice root is an
