
Marjoram, Sweet
Origanum majorana
Family: Lamiaceae
Perennial in the south, annual in temperate regions. Native to
southern Europe and the Mediterranean, especially Portugal. Culinary
spice used for flavoring “nice eel pies,” the holiday goose, sausages and
vegetarian dishes limited only by your imagination. Medicinally,
Sweet Marjoram is a stimulant and carminative. Cultivation:
Sow in pots or flats or direct-seed in the garden in early spring.
Press firmly into surface of soil. Full sun. Space plants 1 foot
apart. Grows 1 to 2 feet tall.
