Annual or biennial, sometimes a short-lived perennial. Native
to Europe, Asia and North Africa. A wild one -- nitrogen fixing,
good reclaimer and soil stabilizer for eroding slopes, a real pioneer.
Steep flowering tops in alcohol and use as an application for vericosities
in the legs. Cultivation: Extra care. Seed has an impermeable
seedcoat. Scarify between two pieces of sandpaper before planting.
Direct seed in the spring. Thin to 6 inches apart. Grows to
5 feet.
