Asclepias incarnata
Family: Asclepiadaceae
Herbaceous perennial. Native to moist meadows, stream banks and marshy
areas throughout the eastern United States. All the Milkweeds make
striking landscape plants. The small, sweetish roots of this native
plant were used extensively by the Iroquois, Fox and Chippewa as a urinary
tonic and to dispel worms. A cord made of the dried stems made a
handy mini-lasso for tooth extraction. Cultivation:
Easy. Sow the seeds in spring. A brief period of cold, moist
conditioning will assist germination. Transplant to 6 inch spacing.
