Moldavian Balm  (Moldavian Dragon's Head)

Dracocephalum moldavicum

Family:  Lamiaceae
Annual.  Native to Eurasia. The flowers are very long-lasting, bright purple, proportionately large to the plant, and shaped outrageously like the toothed head of a dragon.     The fresh or dried leaves make a lemon-hyssop tasting tea for the daily table, as a diuretic or as a treatment for the common cold.  Cultivation: Easy.  Sow seeds in the greenhouse or directly in the garden in the spring.  Plant prefers full sun to partial shade, water, average soil.  Grows 1 to 2 feet tall.  Space plants 1 foot apart.
