
Motherwort, Chinese (Yi-mu-cao)

Biennial. Native to Eurasia. This is one of the several
Chinese Leonurus species. The dried flowering tops and leaf may be
tinctured or made into a tea to calm the nerves and promote menstrual flow.
The plant makes delightful, long-lasting, red-purple cut flowers.
The first year rosette is a lush, full bush. Cultivation:
Easy. The seed germinates readily, whether sown in the fall
or early spring directly in the garden, or started first in flats and transplanted.
Transplant or thin to 1 foot spacing. Space plants 1 to 2 feet apart.
Flowers in second year to 3 to 4 feet tall
