Mullein, Greek

Verbascum olympicum

Family: Scrophulariaceae
Biennial.  Native to Greece.  This is considered to be the best Mullein species for flower production, as it produces many flowers at once which adhere loosely to the multiple upright branches.  Harvest is simply a matter of stripping the flowers in the early part of the day, after the dew but before the sun makes them droop.  Much, much, much easier than picking flowers individually as with V. thapsus. Highly recommended variety. The flowers contain a light and pervasive mucilage, which may be infused in warm olive oil to make an earwax-softening and pain relieving ear oil.   Same cultivation directions as found under V. thapsus, but a better and more predictable germinator.  This valuable seed is best started in flats and transplanted, but with care may be direct seeded. Plant 2 feet apart.  Flowers to 5 feet in second year.  This is the Mullein we will send you if you don’t specify type.
