Peony, Chinese (Bai-shao, Herbaceous Peony)

Herbaceous perennial.  Native to China and Japan.  Wild-derived strain of Peony found naturally in forests and forest margins in the mountain valleys of Hebei and several other Chinese and Japanese provinces.  This is a white-flowered, herbaceous Peony.  The dried root pieces are used in Chinese medicine for treating headache, gastric and menstrual disorders.  Root not to be used during pregnancy.  General cultivation: Sow in fall or early spring for germination in the following spring. Grow out in pots for one year before transplanting.  Likes  full sun and well-drained garden soil. Mulch well. Keep roots from contact with raw manures.Space plants 4 feet apart. Grows 2 to 4 feet tall.
