Shrub to small tree.  Native to the southern U.S., especially Texas.  Both the bark and the seed have long been employed as stimulants to the circulation, intense sialagogues and as a treatment for rheumatism.  Cultivation: Extra care. Multi-cycle germinator.  Scarify.  Sow in the fall, winter or early spring.  Expect germination as the ground warms.  Prick seedlings into gallon pots and grow out for a year before transplanting. Grows to 45 feet.
