Pulsatilla, Official (Wind Flower, Pasque Flower)

Anemone pulsatilla

Family: Ranunculaceae                 Potentially Toxic
Herbaceous perennial.  Native to Europe.  The plant is diminutive but brazen, sending up large, showy purple flowers that give way to upright seed heads with drooping, feathery seeds straight out of Dr. Suess.  Low doses of the fresh plant tincture are used to calm nervous disorders associated with menopause, PMS or insomnia.   A little goes a long way, a lot is potentially toxic.  Cultivation: Extra care.  Short-lived seed.  We sell only seed from the recent harvest.  Sow in fall or spring. Germinates best in the shade.  Germ. in 30-40 days.  Prefers to grow in the full sun among rocks or in average garden soil.  Keep weeded.  Plant 1 foot apart. Flowers from 6 inches to 18 inches tall.
