Adenanthera pavonina

Family:  Fabaceaea.
Tropical tree.  Native to India and southeastern China. Beautiful seeds yield a valuable fixed oil, red dye.  The leaves are made into a decoction which is employed for treating chronic gout and rheumatism. Cultivation: Easy.  Soak seeds in warm water overnight. Plant in greenhouse or outdoors in spring or early summer and keep warm and moist.  Impressive germinator. In tropics or deep south, grow out seedlings in gallon pots for a year before transplanting to landscape.  May be grown as an indoor or greenhoused plant in temperate climates.
