Self-Heal (Heal-All, Heart-of-the-Earth)
Prunella vulgaris
Family: Lamiaceae
Creeping herbaceous perennial. Native to Europe, temperate Asia
and orth America. Growing among the grasses, it seems a demure and
timid plant, blossoming shyly in the shadows. But with a multipersonality
twist, it will also make a respectable, stately and assertive presence
as a focal point in the garden. The dried flowers make a pain-relieving,
astringent tea to treat canker sores. Cultivation: Easy.
Sow seed in very early spring in a flat outdoors or give a short, cold
and moist conditioning treatment before sowing in a warm place. Space
plants 1 foot apart. Flowers purple to 1 to 2 feet high.
