Sheep Sorrel
Rumex acetosella
Family: Polygonaceae
Herbaceous perennial. Native to Europe and Asia. This is
the exact species called for as an ingredient in the much repressed Essiac
anticancer formula, and is thus in high demand. Cultivation:
Easy. Sow in spring. Plants prefer full sun, regular garden
soil. Space plants 6 inches apart. Flowers to 1 foot tall.
~ ESSIAC FORMULA ~
We receive many requests for the original recipe for the Essiac anti-cancer
formula, and are printing it here as a service to those who would like
to know. Seeds for all these herbs with the exception of Slippery
Elm are available through this catalog. Given the “at-risk” status
of Slippery Elm, we encourage people to use Marshmallow leaf and flower
as a very respectable substitute.
Essiac Formula
1.3 oz. Burdock Root, cut up and dried
4 oz Sheep Sorrel Herb, dried
1/4 oz Turkey Rhubarb Root, powdered
1 oz Marshmallow leaf & flower, dried
1/5 cup of this mixture is simmered to make a strong tea (decoction),
which is strained, a cupful taken at bedtime on an empty stomach.
We cannot attest to the tumour-reducing activity of this compound, but
the herbs are clearly blood cleansing, alterative, laxative and demulcent
in effect. Cancer is a serious disease, and there is no substitute
for qualified health care.
