Skunk Cabbage
Symplocarpus foetidus
Family: Araceae
Perennial. Native to eastern North America. Green-purple,
hooded spathe appears prior to the succulent, broad leaves. Root
is an antispasmodic and antiepileptic. Cultivation: Extra
care. Sow in warm soil and keep moist. Best method to
propagate is probably to simply push the seeds about 1 inch deep in marshy
ground anytime and do nothing else but marvel at the plants as they
grow and mature. Plant prefers shady woodlands, swampy or very moist
ground.
