Stonecrop, Goldmoss

(Mossy Stonecrop, Wall Pepper, Biting Stonecrop)

Sedum acre

Family: Crassulaceae
Native to Europe and temperate Asia.   Forms a low-lying mat, giving rise to a complete cover of bright yellow flowers.  Fresh herb is laxative in effect.  Leaves dried and ground for a pungent, stimulating seasoning. General cultivation: Easy.  Sow very tiny seed on surface of soil in spring and keep moist until germination.  Grow out in pots or in flats and transplant, or direct seed with care.  These prefer full sun, moderate water and tolerate a wide range of soil types.  Flowers to 2 inches.
