
Chelone glabra
Herbaceous perennial. Native to the central and eastern United
States and Ontario. Strikingly beautiful, full and long-lasting white flowers
on medium tall stalks. The leaf is a Native American laxative and
anti-parasitic. A salve of the entire dried plant is used for treating
inflammations, hemorrhoids and herpes. Cultivation:
Plant in fall, or provide a four-month period of cold, moist conditioning
before planting in a warm place. Likes a moist, partially shaded
exposure, rich soils. Plant 1 foot apart. Grows 3 to 5 feet
tall.
