Vervain, European

Verbena officinalis

Family: Verbenaceae
Herbaceous perennial.  Native to Europe and the Mediterranean.  This is the altar-plant of the ancient druids, and was called by the Egyptians “tears of Isis.”  Its medicinal use as an astringent, antispasmodic and fever-reducing agent is barely eclipsed by the many references to its use as a magico-religious icon.  It grew on Mount Calvary and was used to staunch the wounds of Jesus. Cultivation:  As for Vervain, Blue.   Plant 2 feet apart.  Grows 3 to 4 feet tall.
