Wormwood

Artemisia absinthium

Family:  Asteraceae        TOXIC
Woody perennial.  Native to Europe, southern Siberia, Kashmir and the Mediterranean.  This is a strikingly large, soft and mellow plant for the medicinal landscape.  It is quite drought tolerant and will discourage the growth of other plants very near it.   The leaf has a silky pubescence on both surfaces--friendly to hand-shaking and caresses, but leaving a bitter after-taste on the skin and lips. When used over a period of time, a tea of the leaves will rid the GI tract of parasites. Consult your health-care practitioner before using high dosages of this herb.   Cultivation:  Easy.  Sow on surface of flat and transplant out to garden after frost.    Space plants 4 feet apart.  They really spread.  Grows 5 feet tall.   Not for sale to WA state.
