Yerba del Lobo

Helenium hoopesii

Family:  Asteracea
Herbaceus perennial.  Native to the mountains of the western United States.  This sesquiterpene-rich plant is Arnica-like, but much hardier, bigger and in general simply coarser.  A liniment may be prepared of the entire dried plant.  It will help resolve bruises, is a useful application for vericosities, and in general works like Arnica as an anti-inflammatory for injury or sprain.  Cultivation:  Easy.  Sow in early spring or provide 2 weeks cold conditioning.  Plant likes plenty of water.  Space plants 2 feet apart.  Flowers yellow to 3 feet.
