
Wolfberry, Chinese (Gou Qi Zi)

Perennial woody shrub. This is one of the most beautiful plants
in the Chinese materia medica. The fruit is sweet and very
red, containing about 1% of betaine. Nourishes the vital essence,
tonifies liver and kidneys, specific treatment for diabetes mellitus and
pulmonary tuberculosis. Cultivation: Extra care.
Remove the seeds from the fruit and sow in pots in the greenhouse.
Use a sand/loam potting soil. Expect germination in 8-12
days. Thin to 1 plant per pot. Grow out for a year in the pot,
then transplant to garden or landscape. Does best in cool climates.
Frost hardy. Space at least 4 feet apart. Grows to 3 feet tall.
